Newaygo County Mental Health (NCMH) offers comprehensive support for families with children from infancy through young adulthood. Services range from early intervention and prevention programs to intensive home-based care, therapeutic supports, and specialized evaluations.

We partner with families, schools, and community organizations to provide person-centered care that promotes healthy development, strengthens family relationships, and supports children in reaching their full potential.

 

Prevention Programs

Infant Mental Health

Supports infants under age three and their families by promoting family strengths and building safe, secure relationships.

Families Together

Supports families with children in kindergarten through third grade to address challenges related to school attendance and performance through collaboration with schools and community partners.

 

Therapy Services

Individual and Family Therapy

Short-term therapy, typically six to ten sessions, for individuals and families facing mental health challenges. Services are available to Newaygo County residents of all ages.

Adolescent Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

An evidence-based therapy for adolescents focused on emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal skill development.

Adolescent Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Maintenance Group

Ongoing group support to help adolescents maintain and strengthen the skills learned in DBT therapy.

 

Specialized Evaluations and Services

Autism Evaluation

Comprehensive evaluation for Applied Behavior Analysis services for children ages 18 months through 20 years who may meet criteria for autism services. Family participation in ABA services is required.

Psychiatric Evaluations

Face-to-face evaluations conducted by a psychiatrist for children and adolescents with severe emotional disturbances. Evaluations include assessment of mental status, presenting concerns, psychiatric history, and medication history.

Psychiatric Care

Coordination of psychiatric hospitalization, screening, discharge planning, and ongoing care for children and adolescents with severe emotional disturbances.

 

Family Support Services

Family Support and Training

Family-focused services that support caregivers of children with serious emotional disturbances or developmental disabilities through education, training, and connection to community resources.

Family Subsidy

Monthly financial assistance for eligible families with children who have developmental disabilities and extensive needs. Funding is provided through the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.

Parent Support Partners

Support services that provide parents with tools, guidance, and information to strengthen their parenting skills and confidence.

 

Intensive Support Programs

Home-Based Services

Intensive mental health services delivered in the home for children and families with complex needs, designed to support family stability.

Wraparound Care

A collaborative planning process that coordinates formal services and informal community supports for children and families who have not benefited from traditional services.

Support Coordination for Children

Service coordination and long-term support for children with developmental disabilities or severe emotional disturbances.

 

Respite and Relief Services

Child and Adolescent Respite Care

Temporary care for children with developmental disabilities or severe emotional disturbances, provided in or outside the home to support family well-being.

 

Youth Peer Support

Youth Peer Support Services

Youth Peer Support Specialists are young adults ages 18 through 28 with lived experience who support youth ages 12 through 26 receiving services at Newaygo County Mental Health.

Youth peer support services include:

  • Hope and validation through shared experience
  • Support in a safe, judgment-free environment
  • Assistance with family relationships and conflict resolution
  • Skill-building to improve daily functioning
  • Support with school, community, and family integration
  • Guidance during the transition to adulthood

 

Specialized Waiver Programs

Severe Emotional Disturbance (SED) Children’s Waiver

A waiver program for children in foster care with extensive needs who meet state and community mental health criteria and receive wraparound services. The goal is family reunification or permanency with improved functioning.

Children’s Waiver (Birth Through Age 18)

A waiver program for children with developmental disabilities who meet service criteria. Families complete a pre-screening with a case manager, followed by review by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. Services are coordinated by Newaygo County Mental Health.
